Submission Statement: The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), after initial setbacks, is planning to introduce a new currency regional currency called “Eco” by July 2027. Nigeria and Ghana might be the first to adopt the usage of the currency.
The first phase is likely to be with the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ) comprising Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. The hope is that this will encourage intraregional trade and development between member states.
