Considering how we have regressed as a society and weren’t that fabulous when it came to the conversation of rape, pretty much globally, nah GoT, of which her rape scene was so far from the only one.All it did was show us we live in a world that has no real problem treating the worst violation one human can do to another, as “entertainment”. As just something to be expected for women.
It’s weird and it’s far from somehow being a progressive, needle moving thing.
But she is right that we end up talking about it when it’s brought up. It’s just I disagree with the framework.
It was a terrible change made for shock value. Anybody who defend this doesn’t know what they talking about.
Sexual abuse being used for character devellopement is lame as fuck. The idea that a sansa became what she is BECAUSE she was raped… Is the dumbest the show ever pulled up

The worst is that sansa became an even more annoying character after season 6 becsue the show kept portraying as this cold genius polician when the audience simply don’t buy it

Terrible writing decision done to plug a hole made by removing a minor character (Jeyne Poole). Despite setting up an arc for Sansa in which she learns to play the game of thrones in the Vale and develops into a Margery type political figure, the writers decided to have her immediately go back to being a victim after four seasons with Joffrey. Despicable.
They should not have gotten rid of the character Jeyne Poole and left Sansa in the Vale as Alayne Stone and done the Harry the Heir plotline.
Sophie Turner is also one of the few GoT actors that defended the garbage ending, it’s clear she’s not the brightest…

I don’t understand why they never mention the fact so many people hated it is because Sophie Turned was just freshly 18. I know that’s why a lot of fans disliked it, plus the added violence towards women

The Sopranos actually used the rape of Melfi in such a crucial, character developing way. Lorraine Bracco was pissed when she first read it in the script. David Chase said just finish the script for the episode and once she did, she realized the point of it. It solidly defined Melfi as on one side of the line, with Tony on the other, while also showing the pain, hurt, rage, and temptation for revenge, so easily available, she went thru.
Apropos of literally nothing at all, Sophie is dating a billionaire named Peregrine Pearson.

It’s Grimdark fantasy folks. There is no right or wrong. There is nothing off the table and growth is fueled by trauma and adversity through arc of morally grey decisions.

I don’t know when the trend of having to morally align with every character on screen began, but I do hate it.
Bad things happen to good people all the time. These things drive character choices after they happened to them.
Yes something horrible happened. A character raped/murdered/enslaved someone. That’s called a villain. An evil character that drives the motivations of the other character involved going forward.
I honestly don’t know what people expect in stories going forward anymore.

If i never had to watch sexual violence passed off as entertainment again, that’d be great. It’s so transparently about wish fulfillment for people who fantasize about sexual violence. All being raped did to me is take away some of my life force and close doors to my soul forever. It doesn’t build character any more than being paralyzed from the neck down builds character.
