I feel so bad for these people. They earned their independence when the USSR fell. That means they are not property of any other government. It would be like if the Britain decided to take back the United States. Putin sucks.

A just peace would mean the balkanization of the Russian Federation and I just can’t see that happening.
Any compromise that lets Putin keep Ukrainian territory will be seen by Putin as a win and as evidence that starting wars to conquer territory will be rewarded. It means he’ll start more wars.
