there can be two reasons for that.

either the little pin that controls the valve is stuck so it never actually opens.

Or your heating system in the house it not even turned on because right now is not a time of the year where people heat their homes.

Most landlords do not turn on the heating unless the temps drop below 15C consistently for several days.

    3. It’s summer.

They’re not working during the summer. For what reason?

They’ll start working once a certain temperature threshold is met and/or starting with a certain date.

It’s summer. If you need heating then you should probably go see a doctor.

    5. That looks like a Homematic IP smart controller. There should also be a Homematic hub somewhere in your house. It needs to be set centrally or with an app – I think there may be a way to lock it out of being set directly on device. Have you asked your landlord?

    6. If the heating is provided by the building it is likely completely shut off until the temperature outside drops in fall/winter. It won’t matter what temp you set the thermostat to as there’s no hot water in the pipes to do anything.

    7. Relax. It’s too hot for the thermostat to even engage. And if it does, the central heating is turned off to save energy.

Give it three weeks and you can assure yourself of the functionality without the danger of freezing.

It’s August (summer), so I’d guess the heating system in your house is turned off. You could take a look at your rental agreement – usually there you’ll find the heating period during which the heating system is turned on. I wouldn’t worry before October/November.

Usually heating is off for the entire building between the summer months

    10. Sometimes these get turned off during the summer. Also they heat up to a certain temperature. If the temperature is already reached (like right now is probably the case), it wont heat.

Heating season in Germany is normally from first October to end of April. Outside of heating season, the system is often turned off.
Only warm water will work, but not your heating devices.

    12. Noises? If it’s a thermostat control as the ones I have, it might be doing automatic calibration every now and then, whether the heating is on or not. This makes a little noise from the controller opening and closing the valve.

As everybody else has said before, it’s August and nobody’s heating should be on just yet…

    13. Like other people have said, the main boiler for heating in the apartment building is probably not turned on. It’s pretty common for them to be turned off during the warmer months to save power. I think this is the most likely scenario (I’m 99% certain that this is the case).

If you are concerned you could ask your landlord because they will know. Don’t worry though, if it’s still not work when the weather gets colder you can tell your landlord and they are obligated to fix it quickly. Germany has some good laws for tenants around this sort of thing.

If you only moved in recently you had no chance to feel the radiator – its way too warm

Plus: even at maximum the radiator should only feel slightly warm in winter, otherwise the setup is not energy efficient

    15. beo, we’ve got 20-33 degrees, no one needs tonhest their flat or house. maybe its just turn of in the basement. Check it when its cold outside
