Alright, going to give Carney and team the benefit of the doubt, seeing as no one knows exactly what went on behind the scenes to get to this point except those that make these decisions. If dropping the these tariffs was the US’ only condition to restart negotiations, ok, fine.

However, it’s understandable why some people will find this upsetting. A whole brand was built around “Elbows Up”. A whole election was run on standing up to Donald Trump. A lot of people expected different results, not concessions, at least not without anything to show for it.

Which is why something meaningful needs to result from the restarted negotiations to save face. Otherwise, it looks like we just listen to whatever Trump wants as a country. Hell, I don’t even trust Trump or his administration to negotiate in good faith. I expect them to demand even more concessions, many of which weren’t even on the table before.

Carney and team need to make sure we aren’t being taken for a ride as a country. Or that we are pushovers. Because we aren’t. And this will piss off a lot of people if we end up with a bad deal.
