      >How am I supposed to know when the parcel will arrive?

You look at the tracking page?

    2. MichiganRedWing on

Apparently your neighbor took delivery of the package. No it’s not normal for the driver to be such an idiot, but it’s becoming more and more common.

    3. It says the 2 packages were given to your neighbour in the third section (3rd and 4th line you blanked should be their last name).

Next steps: You ring their bell, get your packages and thank them.

Whether your package gets stolen or not really depends on where you live. It is not safe everywhere and the delivery person requires a permission called „Abstellgenehmigung“ to leave it at your doorstep.

    4. DHL has an app with which you can track you parcel. You should get a parcel ID from Amazon. In this app you can also declare that you are ok witt parcels being left at your door. The delivery driver is not allowed to leave the parcel as long as you do not agree to the terms, which includes that DHL is not liabel if the parcel is stolen from your door step.

Yeah, sadly deliver in Germany is quite unpredictable. It got better but it’s still not good. Normally you will receive an email or a message when your package will approximately arrive.
On the note you received its written that there were two packages and that they were handover to a neighbor. But can’t see if there’s a name of the neighbor written.

      Just ignore it.
A lot of the delivery guys in Germany are not the brightest light on the cake.

Well the package seemed big and heavy so i understand the frustration of the mail men. Just don’t mind it, he might have had a bad day and needed to vent a little. Also the timing was unlucky. It says your package is at your neighbour also. Ask there.

Just register at DHL and schedule a delivery day or re-route the package to a shop or Packstation.

You can also give them permission to leave your package outside. They don’t just leave it outside without permission for legal reasons. That said, it’s not unlikely your package will get stolen that way.

Can someone tell me what the underlined word is? „Warum nicht da _ großen Sachen bestellen wenn man nicht zu Hause ist“

I wouldn’t say it’s „normal“ as in „happens every time“, but also not strange or surprising. It’s not agrressive, he just asks why you order large items if you aren’t at home. The parcel was given to a neighbour. In Germany, people in service jobs are not expected to fake happiness all the time.

Delivery people can be quite rude and I can’t even blame them considering how much crap people are constantly ordering.

    12. grinsekatze1337 on

The package is at your neighbour. Also stands there on the paper. Line 3.

And its also the case in germany. You can report it to dhl and he will maybe get a penalization. But you will never know.
But tbh. Just ignore it. Most people dont give a shit about that. And also most people at dhl also. So in most cases nothing will happen, because you will never know it anyways.

      Just move on dude

    13. My advice, download and install the DHL App to track your parcel. 📦 Then you know when you get the delivery. It usually is very accurate. The delivery guy complained about nobody being at home knowing a unusually large parcel is going to be delivered. He gave it to a neighbour.

    14. Yeah, weird, and kinda rude.

Especially since these days most drivers wouldn’t even know if you are at home or not, because they don’t even ring but just leave it at the door. And that is already being lucky, it is also not too uncommon (especially for GLS and DPD) to just dump everything at the next pick-up station.

And honestly, I mostly get why the do that, and I get why they sometimes seem rude. They are notoriously overworked, for shitty money. Doesn’t mean that it isn’t frustrating sometimes.

I’ll translate literally, to help you understand where he’s coming from. With the errors.

      > Why no there.

      > **Not** buying big things when you are not home!

I am surprised how people are not addressing the issue here . Package deliveries in Germany sucks . The delivery person often won’t even deliver to your house even if you are home the whole time tracking and waiting for the package , they simply take it with them to the Paket Station for you to collect it . And this is just one of the many examples . The delivery guy clearly left an aggressive message and should be reported for this .

    17. Oh how many times it happened that i stayed home to get delivery of package just to find notice i was not home at delivery time but nobody was ringing. Once i even observed dhl guy from balcony, he steped out of van just to put notifications in mailboxes without even taking a single package out and trying to deliver. Countles times i had for package permission to leave at front door just to find it was delivered to neighbour or to package station. Unfortunatelly delivery people are geting dumber and lazier and delivery is getting worst. But it is not just them. Even public transport driver are getting dumber and dumber

    18. liquid_trap on

Plottwist: The neighbor was mad about having to store the big packages and wrote it.

    19. Duenja_Freestyle on

Well I understand his attitude you usually get informed about when parcels arrive and it is just extra work on top of them to deliver it to you. Especially when it is heavy…

Complain about the company’s policy and not about him. They have to deliver a certain amount of parcels per shift and well… the system is fucked.

    20. LongAssBeard on

Germans believe they must always say what the little voice in their head is telling them, coming off like this frequently, welcome to Germany!

    21. The note says the parcel is at your neighbors house.

Tbh they have a point. Could be worded nicer but why don’t you use delivery to a DHL shop or to a Packstation, if you know you won’t be at home? You can grab it from there, if you have time.
It‘s just causing more work for the delivery guy to ring at your neighbors door (there‘s also the possibilty that they‘re not at home), or to take the parcel back into his car and into the DHL parcel center. Keep in mind it says it‘s big.
DHL is not allowed to leave a parcel at your doorstep, if you didn’t gave them permission to do so. It‘s because of insurance reasons.

    22. CustardBig5989 on

The written note complains about the fact that you have ordered something big and heavy. I can relate to the delivery guy, because it is annoying to carry your heavy package to the door just to find out you are not there… Probably he needed to ring other doorbells to find someone who is willing to take the package for you.

If you have something big or heavy and you expect to be not at home it is better to send it to a „Packstation“ or a „Postfiliale“ where you can pick it up later yourself. If it’s something small it probably does not matter too much.

Also it depends on where you live. In some regions it is safe to leave the package at the doorstep and some drivers will do it, but since your address states Berlin… Well… We all know what that means. 😉

Apart from that delivery guys are only officially allowed to leave the package at the doorstep if you have given them the „Abstellgenehmigung“ upfront. You can do that in the DHL app.

Reporting this would be an asshole move in my opinion. These guys are not paid very much and expecting them to show up multiple times with a big ass package is debatable… Also, he does not complain in a very rude way or something. It just states that you should not purchase heavy stuff, if you do not expect to be at home. Also, the DHL app gives you a time frame when the delivery guy will show up at your house. So I can relate to some degree.

    23. It is generally considered a dick move to order something and not be home then. If it is something big or heavy it is just an unnecessary waste of time, strength and effort for the people working in delivery. Try ordering it to a packing station or a pickup shop when you are not home.

It surely isn’t the right thing to write something like that on the note, to be honest I can relate to their anger tho. Imagine your boss coming in every 30 minutes to tell you what you just did is worth nothing and you can start over with that task tomorrow.
The drivers have quite bad working conditions to begin with and are on a more than just „tight“ schedule.

You could report it, surely, but in this situation I’d consider it being an a-hole.. you didn’t know it so I wouldn’t blame you for the initial thing. Just be glad the package is at your neighbours and don’t do it again. Everyone is happy.

    24. In most cases DHL or Amazon sends you detailed info about your delivery. He literally says if you await some really large packages it is highly recommended to plan how to receive them. He recommends to stay at home in those cases as he has to carry it twice otherwise but is only paid once. If you know already that you will not be at home you might reschedule or tell them a safe place to drop their parcels. And those drivers did not attend courses in higher poetry. So expect it to be direct and bland 😊😅😂

You can have his job. You won’t get him disciplined or fired unless you will personally take his job.

DHL can’t fill their vacancies. They won’t kick him out for some completely harmless passive aggression, as long as he gets his tour done.

So suck it up and ask yourself if you’d like to drive around in a yellow van…
