In 1925 the Geneva convention banned the use of chemical weapons in war, Tear gas is considered a chemical weapon after a review in 1993 at the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), „Any chemical… which can produce rapidly in humans sensory irritation or disabling physical effects which disappear within a short time following termination of exposure.“
So why is law enforcement allowed to use it on civilians?

Context is important here and that headline is garbage – ICE [per the article](https://ca.news.yahoo.com/thanks-trump-ice-just-gassed-130000437.html) is directly NOT GASSING PUBLIC SHOOLS. Sad that I feel I have to qualify this, I am not attempting to defend or marginalize any tactics ICE is using, but they are gassing protesters who are at the facility „nightly“ and those gasses are moving into the nearby public school area due to proximity and (likely) prevailing winds.
Headlines like this are simply there to generate outrage and drive site traffic. Which is behind a paywall no less! „Want the details? You have to pay!“. That practice, referring to outrage generation here, is a major problem in this country and around the world.
They can do whatever the *hell* they want! /s

Title is misleading. Tear gas was used to disperse crowds of protestors at the ICE facility, which frosted to a nearby school. The title makes it sound like they fired tear gas canisters onto the campus to disperse students. Preciseness in language matters.
Nothing screams freedom and democacy like brownshirts gassing kids.
