I think he is just looking at you because you look like a foreigner. You did nothing wrong. I see you are Kurdish, and there are Kurds in Armenia so maybe they thought it strange since you are probably Muslim? My best guess
people just got faces like that
There is some etiquette, like if you’re a man you’re not supposed to wear a hat in a church
That small structure is typically only to light a votive and pray. It’s a very quiet and solemn place. So if you just walked in and looked around as if you’d do a musem, or even were talking loudly, getting stares is natural. For next time, or when visiting other churches, just go to the main building, buy one or three candles to light inside, and people won’t stare as much.
were you wearing a tank top or shirt that doesn’t cover your shoulders? it is customary to be covered up/very modest in church, but also armenians just stare regardless— don’t worry you didnt do anything wrong by just walking in
Not disrespectful at all. They’re probably just not used to foreigners that’s all.
Hello 👋 I am Greek 🇬🇷 I love Armenia, dm me if you want a Greek friend
Armos be have a starring problem
I watched a baby’s baptism in Harichavank with no issue, so it probably wasn’t that you were doing anything disrespectful, but that you encountered some curious people with a staring habit.
I’m darker skinned, Indian or maybe perceived as African and really tall! I’m always dressed modestly and went to lots of Monasteries in the last week in Armenia and received many looks. Perhaps they look out of shock because they haven’t seen people that look like me but nothing rude or just curious even though the look is out of woah what is this, lole. I go in, and pray and if someone looks at me long enough they may get a smile even though it may or may not be reciprocated. In the Armenian churches you have to dress modestly and respect the code of conduct in a church. Don’t worry about the looks, be comfortable in your skin irrespective of where you are! Trust me if I recall every look I received it would make me feel sad but I’m pretty sure the looks are not malicious.
Armenians will stare at you and judge no matter what you do. Better get used to it.
Armenia has so many beautiful historic churches open to the public, and you have every right to visit them. I’m half Armenian, and when I visited one of the churches, someone asked if I was Christian. I simply said yes because I didn’t want to start an argument, though I’m not. Still, I felt very welcome there and truly appreciated the beauty of the churches. I hope you enjoy your trip!
Armenians have a resting bitch face sometimes, don’t be discouraged. And no, you’re always welcome in any church.
If you’re a foreigner, you’ll get stared at anywhere, regardless of location.
