I’m sure Winston Churchill would be proud of the party that he once led, having campaigned so tirelessly for greater co-operation and union with Europe.
This would be the point I leave the country and take my skills elsewhere.
It always amazes me how eager this country is to torch their own rights.

This is important point but don’t worry, I’m sure leaving the ECHR won’t have any unexpected negative consequences for the public. Like say restricting union rights, cracking down on protests even more, further chipping away at our privacy. After all, the last decade has shown us just how much our governments love unions, protest, and privacy.
And of course, there’s no chance they’ll ever take a swing at reducing workers’ protections. Sure they’d have more power as we’d have lost the ability to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. But our politicians? Those trustworthy bunch? We’ll be fine.

First Labour MP made the call to leave the ECHR earlier today as well. People are going to sulk about it, but it’s becoming a mainstream opinion.
They had their chance. They need to explain why they didn’t do it last time.
It always feels very good and not at all scary when a party wants to abandon an international Human Rights treaty because they kept trying to break it and getting caught. I am sure we can all trust that if in government they would have no ulterior motives and would not take advantage of this in any way. Especially when the articles they talk about wanting to scrap are minor ones like your protections from Government surveillance or unlawful seaches.
Its fine though, they will definitely replace it with an equally functional British version, just with a couple of very minor changes and exclusions for certain groups, nothing to worry about.
Take note. They’d trash their own parties legacy, and they would, and have happily, done the same to the country in the past.
What I don’t understand is that leaving the ECHR is desired because of the belief it’s stopping us controlling the border. Yet Poland are signed up to the ECHR and seem to have good control of their borders.
I feel it’s a push by the Tories and Reformers to dissolve rights of UK citizens even more (Labour are not immune from being anti-rights with their Online Safety Act too).
I know this might be selfish, but I’m not willing to give up the protections the ECHR affords me for the sake of deporting a few thousand „illegal immigrants“
UK managed before ECHR became law , UK will manage after. Time to leave ECHR, anybody who moans can blame themselves for blocking the control of immigration in the courts, in parliament and even on a passenger jet deporting a convicted jamican rapist/murderer to his home country. You know who you are , you are to blame.

It’s annoying because there’s people that should absolutely be removed and are using the system to stop that removal, unsure if this is the way, bit on the fence as like all things, there’s good and bad outcomes.
So the tories are campaigning on destroying the EU/UK FTA and tearing up the GFA.

They want to leave the ECHR so that they can water down our rights and we can become a true neo-feudal hellhole where the rich enjoy a life of luxury and the rest of us have to be grateful for scraps.

Also, it’s pathetic to try to compete with Reform. At least set up your own platform, and compete with the other parties on your own merits and original ideas. I have no respect for this kind of grifting.

From the party that brought you Brexit, and its issues with Ireland as it would break the Good Friday Agreement. The Conservative Party now presents another issue with Ireland as this new policy would break the Good Friday Agreement.
Strikes me as throwing the baby out with the bath water. The ECHR needs changes in some limited areas, but none deviating from the spirit of it.
Absolutely not, EHCR would let loose the UK entirely, since leaving the EU our pollution has matched up and our financial health and gone from bad to worse.
Leaving the EHCR would mean all our rights would be curtailed and would be to the detriment of us all.
Damn it would be nice just to have a normal conservative party back again about now
