Sheesh sold his freedom for roughly $666.66/month. That’s about my COLA for HI.

Will betray country. $20/day or-best-offer. Don’t lowball me I know what I’ve got.

    3. I would not sell my country out at all; but for such a small amount meant he was never loyal to anything.

Who made Jinchao Wei the intel officer?

And according to the article he knew what he was doing and who he was selling it to. Even told his friend.

    5. Adding context as it’s buried at the bottom of the article. What he sold? “ outdated maintenance manuals to a broken and obsolete steam powered ship.”

Roughly 60 manuals for 12,000$, so about 200$ a manual. Jeez.

Edit: update my math for clarity and transparency

Subscribe to my Only Traitors for just $66.67 per day!

Seriously though, $12k is all it takes to convince someone to wreck their own life?

I would absolutely sell out America if I had the chance.

There’s no point in being loyal to a country which genocided its indigenous people, enslaved African Americans, then subjected PoC to apartheid, started random wars just to give corporate welfare to defense contractors, interferes in other countries elections, and then has the audacity to complain when Russia does some of these things.

Yeah thats a depressingly low sum. Idk maybe pay our soldiers better?

It’s kind of surprising but also not surprising how little money it typically takes for these people to betray their own country. Generally foreign governments
target people who are desperate situations where even a couple grand can get them out of trouble. One of the reasons that they really care about past drug use/credit card use/ gambling problems.

Marine would have done it for a pack of Crayolas. China got hosed. Bad deal!

Should be clear: Chinese operative, under cover as a US Navy sailor, sells secrets to China.

Money talks. Former communists turned commie hybrid ultra capitalists would know

$12,000 is an awfully low amount for the kind of punishment the sailor is going to get for it.

    14. Note, he *didn’t do it* for 18 months. The deal he made was to give information for 18 months. They caught him before it happened and was likely a honey trap.

    15. I think we are at a point where espionage needs to be given the death penalty. China is imminently planning on taking Taiwan, Russia is taking Ukraine, and its absolutely vital US systems are not compromised. We do not have the technological advantage anymore that we enjoyed for the past 30-40 years

    16. „His loyalty could not be bought at any price, but could be rented remarkably cheaply.“

    17. Bad look for Chinese born servicemen everywhere; Facebook, Instagram and X having a field day with this one

This is crazy, he could wind up at Florence ADX for something like this. Insane he went through with it.

As American leadership continues to make it citizens, poor and poor, we can expect to see a rise in this kind of activity

    20. Ideologically motivated spies exist, but the overwhelming majority on all sides just do it for money.

    21. $12k? Imagine selling military secrets and you can’t even pay off your student loans. This person is a special kind of idiot.

    22. Didn’t some people prove that you could buy a congressman’s vote on a gun bill for like $20k? People take bribes for way less than you’d think

    23. LiberalSuperG on

If you ain’t getting 3 wives, a forever home and monthly payments, it ain’t worth it

    24. I think that speaks a lot to the conditions of the sailor here. I have zero loyalty to my country specially since its been going down hill here fast, but I would still not risk my life for so low an amount.

What an idiot. Who will now rot in some cell for a long long time – he could have quickly alerted his organization who could have used this to feed AI generated bullshit manuals or just shut down the intelligence cell, but he did „the small bad“, and once you’ve done that you’re lost. Idiot.
