Whatever your political views are, they have no place in a language lesson. It’s just bad business, as evidenced by the fact that duolingo apologised. I don’t like Donald Trump but I don’t want to talk about how much I don’t like him when I’m trying to learn a language.
This article is awful lol. It has about 2 lines about the actual subject and then spends 10 times as long talking about completely different situations.

Duolingo is pretty famous for having really weird and nonsensical sentences that feel randomly generated. „Tomorrow I will eat a purple statue“ kinda stuff.
I suspect the sentence in question was likely randomly generated. Duolingo probably have a policy not to make editorial comments about public figures (even giant arseholes like JK), precisely cause this kind of situation doesn’t benefit them at all.
