    1. Jail and a 30k fine for selling dodgy boxes to watch sport, suspended sentences for serious assault and downloading child porn – nicely balanced punishments under Irish law, sure….

Also – shouldn’t this be a civil case?

    2. Well…that guy got his sentence for „contempt of court“ not for being a dodgy box provider.

Now I am neither a provider nor a user, I have no dog in this fight, but seems to me if we send people to jail it should be for serious crime, where people are hurt, not the bottom line….

It’s frustrating to see the Gardai wasting their time on something so trivial.

There seems to be a concerted effort recently to have multiple stories in the news warning people of the perils of dodgy boxes. Sky’s PR team really earning their crust.

    5. I’m not immune to occasional piracy but can I check with the people on here who always complain about these type of cases. Do you really think that broadcast rights and laws should not exist? Either they exist and are at least to some degree enforced or they are unneeded.

Sky pay a lot of money for rights and look to recoup their investment. I don’t think that’s unreasonable.

    6. Meanwhile, every other day, I read some news about a teenager attacking some poor innocent person for no reason, and nothing happens to them.
