European ones have reddish legs and more yellow on their abdomen. Japanese ones have no red colouring. They have black legs with yellow tips and a predominantly black abdomen with maybe one or two yellow bands in the lower half.

Considering you killed 30 of them with a slipper, something tells me those are not the agressive asian hornets.
I don’t think you would have survived that. And if you did, go buy a lottery ticket cause this might be your luckiest day ever!
Best to identify it with the Obsindentify-app and visit [https://vespawatch.be/identification/](https://vespawatch.be/identification/) for a better idea how to identify them and report it.

Volunteer firefighter here who exterminated around 150 nests the last 2 months.
Yes, these are Asian hornets. Best recognizable by their black colour and partially yellow legs.
Report this to your fire zone. There are 36 fire zones in Belgium, so make sure to choose the correct one.
From what I have heard some fire zones do not exterminate them for free or not at all. Although the law says we should do so for free. Check if their website contains any information.
This year, as somewhat expected, is the busiest year so far so it might take some time for the fire department to reach your house. In our fire zone we combine all addresses in the same town and if there are enough or it has been a while, then we swing by.
However, we can only exterminate if we have the nests‘ location or an entrance. We do not bother searching for you. If you cannot locate the nest, then you could see if there are any bee keepers near you that will. Some might even exterminate them for free.
If you do not want to wait for the fire department then you can try and exterminate the nest yourself by using the same poison that is used for ants. However, if you do not succeed in killing the queen with poison, then the nest will pop back in population in no time. I do NOT recommend exterminating a nest by yourself.
You could also get a private exterminator. Most cannot reach higher than 6m or 9m.

It’s because they are yellow that you say that?

Warning they can kill people.
Report to vespawatch. Depending on your city they will be exterminated for free.
All other people, if you have high trees in your garden go and have a good look. Now is the moment they move to tree nests. Big round brown bal (to 1 meter, 20 30 meter up) all those nest contain up to 50 queens. Kill them now is 50 nest less next year.
Yes it’s an asian hornet. They are easy to spot when you look at their legs, upper half is black and the other half is yellow

Yes this is an Asian hornet. They are bad for our bees. The European hornets are okay and don’t hurt our eco system. You can call the fire department to remove the nest. Within 3 days they will all be gone.

color of their face makes me think they are european. asian ones tend to be darker.
Take a picture and upload it to the app **ObsIdentify**. This will identify and log the sighting.
