Well Aluminum is one of the metals Canada is looking to impose counter-tariffs on against the US, so there you go. Make less cars ‚cause Canada imports from elsewhere, the less Alum you need.

I’d buy a US flag from Mexico before buying it from the US. But don’t worry, I’m not buying one.

    3. Huh. So, you mean, the threats from (alleged to be) reddit-America about blocking trade were all….lies? Bluster?

      <*shocked Pikachu face.gif*>

I guess divestment is happening 😀

Nice! Nobody’s under any obligation to buy American vehicles.

Is Mexico manufacturer of those vehicles, or just a middle man between the US and Canada?

Well yeah, why would we trade with a country that doesn’t follow its own trade agreements or understand what tariffs are?

It’s not going to change overnight, but this is how the future looks like – Avoiding the USA to do business with sane countries whenever possible.

People don’t typically read beyond the headline…if you had you would find it is not really good news for Canada.

      >Canada also imported a relatively large number of vehicles from the U.S. ahead of the effective date of the tariffs – **about $2.5 billion in February and March, when it usually averages $1.8 billion** – which may have given it a cushion while both countries figure out exactly how future trade is going to work.

So overall, the volume is likely very similar to other years.

      >[Statistics Canada reported that all vehicle imports](https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/250805/dq250805a-eng.htm) into Canada **rose by 6.9% in June,** mostly due to that increase from Mexico, **following two months of consecutive decline**. However, **imports of automotive engines and parts into the country fell by 4.8%, “amid declining motor vehicle production in Canada,”** the federal agency said.

      This is not good.

      >As far as sending Canadian production out to other countries, our **exports of vehicles and parts combined fell by 4.2% in June. Exports of passenger cars and light trucks alone fell by 8.9% in June, marking the third consecutive monthly decline, and the first time our vehicle exports have fallen below $4.0 billion since November of 2022.**

      Really, not good.

    8. How much of this actually cuts America out of the supply chain? If the vehicle is just assembled in Mexico, then it’s just a cheap way to circumvent the tarrifs.

    9. Can I buy a GAC Trumpchi Empow / Dodge Attitude though?

The cars we import are the ones built to US Standards only.
