      > The shot was guided by artificial intelligence and a network of reconnaissance drones, which also confirmed the successful hit.

This war is fucking bananas, man.

So is it a guided bullet ?

Or did the sniper use a ballistic calculator with lots of inputs ?

I dont get this AI everything.

Say I ask an LLM a question on balistics. Its not using AI to come up with new calculation methods. Its just looking up existing info surely ?

    3. Given ai and some of the bullets in development, we are probably going to be longer and longer shots. When you have bullets that can literally adjust itself midair, the idea of longest sniper shot to me will be a thing of the past.

Crazy thing is (which is not mentioned in the title), the shot killed two russians. It is like not only did it get that distance, but also hit two. With the use of drones and ai, we really are getting to crazy times.

4km even earth rotation comes into consideration, saw this in a movie but I think Coriolis effect might actually be a thing at that distance and earth radius might too lol

    5. The article makes it sound like the bullet was from the Tom Sellek movie, Runaway.

    6. As always, don’t believe the hype.

Algorithms are **not** AI, and we’ve had *this* capability for at least 20 years now – the first iPhone could have done it, with the right hardware interfaces, and combat missiles **have** been doing it for decades.

I love how everything is AI right now. Scientifis uses AI to sum to numbers! It’s a software!!

    8. just keep giving money and military units to Ukraine

has Civ V taught us nothing?

Beyond a certain distance, the curvature of the earth has to be factored in.

    10. AI guided the bullet.. no it didn’t.. the bullets trajectory is set once it leaves the barrel. There’s no controlling the bullet.
He probably just typed in the distance, wind speed and bullet velocity and it told him what to account for

    11. So he hit two targets? not going to believe that. At that distance the likelihood of making a shot with a very accurate weapon and a very accurate wind reading is already very low. Making two is nearing impossible.

    12. So what I’m hearing is it’s basically 20% the same thing as what was on the helicarriers that the bad guys were trying to launch in captain America winter soldier.

    13. Killing important people will become so easy and impossible to prevent, that no one will ever appear in public anymore.

„sniper“… Uses 14,5mm and shoots 5 times in quick succession before getting a hit.

That’s like shooting a DShK burst at an enemy building and calling a hit a „sniper shot“
