But the conservatives told me handouts are bad and everyone should pull themselves up by their bootstraps!

The fact that they’ve managed to pull this off without Western media making Mexico out to be the next Venezuela and without foreign capital running away from the country in droves is absolutely insane.

Mexico has made some great policy shifts in recent years that don’t make the news enough. Especially in food policy, since they have quite rates of obesity:
