Why do I have a feeling that the ‚appropriate action‘ was to use to OSA to remove the ‚offending images‘ from social media?
What checks can the Home Office reasonably do?
We don’t have fingerprints of every person on Earth.
They don’t have an identification document, are not required or expected to provide one. Even then, in many countries you can get a passport saying whatever you want, name or date of birth. They may not even be from the country they claim to be. How will you match them up?
While there’s obviously possibility of using AI to try to use facial recognition against social media, how effective is that going to be? Lots of social media accounts are private, in aliases or don’t clearly show people’s faces. There’s also the technical aspect of trying to search every social media, instagram story, video, and the possibility of false positives. Then doing this 50,000 times a year.
Checking people’s social media could even stray into being surveillance. So we would need to give the Home Office more powers.
Can’t request DNA and nothing to compare it to.
This is the added difficulties of irregular migrants. Often times we are relying on intelligence from other sources or people familiar with the person to match them.
Nothing new. We knew criminals were smuggling guns and drugs in via illegal migrants the only change here is this dumbass made a video of himself.
A better question is what did his „associates“ think of him pulling a stunt like this.
In case you aren’t aware Sanaa is in the occupied part of Yemen where the Houthi’s maintain an iron fist and control private gun ownership in order to prevent anyone challenging their rule. For this man to have these weapons and equipment such as that radio he would have to be a member of the Houthis
The knife he has on his chest in one of the images is also a Jambiya which is a Yemeni ceremonial dagger however these are very expensive in Yemen due to the economic crisis there and as a result the only people to be openly carrying them are those who are wealthy or those who work for the Houthis. He is also seen wearing his inside a tactical vest meaning his was overwhelmingly given to him by the Houthis as those who wear theirs as a symbol of wealth would normally wear it with traditional clothing
So yes he’s not a refugee, he’s a Houthi terrorist and should be arrested and deported back to Yemen, specifically the internationally recognised government side of it, where he can be imprisoned for crimes against the Yemeni people
