      As much as they should, I always doubted war-weary Ukraine would get Crimea back. However, they have every right to be a part of NATO, IMO. Who the fuck does a diplomatic failure like Trump think he is to tell the world who can or cannot be a member of NATO.       The goal is to set some sort of peace plan that they know Ukraine will never agree to because there is zero good faith left to negotiate with Putin on. That way when the Ukraine rejects these unseemly conditions nobody trusts Putin to abide that Trump put forth Trump can say they don’t want peace and use that to roll back more aid to the Ukraine, reduce sanctions on Russia, pull back even more NATO funding, and claim he wants to make peace in the region.

      Note this isn’t Trump’s plan. It’s Putin’s and by hook or crook he’s convinced Trump to make this US policy.
