      Open up the entire industry to competition from around the world. Enough protecting one of the worst companies in Canadian history.

      Important enough to cancel the strike less than 12 hours after it began, not important enough to pay them for all the hours they work. Make it make sense

      No wonder they went on strike. They’re forced to work without pay for many hours each flight.

      If striking is illegal then you look to the alternatives.

      I don’t want to fly when the workers are being actively ripped off. For one it’s fucking scary.

      Personally always against government intervention on a strike, especially when that union is part of a for profit company like Air Canada. Happy to have heard the union is ignoring the government back to work orders. AC is a shitty airline for their passengers, hopefully they pay their workers a decent wage going forward when this is all done

      I think practices need to be updated with time.

      Bringing in a mediator before impact to the general public makes sense for both sides as striking workers are unlikely to make friends when they are impacting every day people. Companies can also sometimes be out to lunch with their offers.

      However, striking / lock out should be permitted after mediation if both sides fail to come to an agreement.

      Striking/lock-out is like a game of chicken on who can outlast the other. It generally sucks for everyone but does have its place. It should probably be last resort though.

      And just like that, the ‚liberals‘ prove once again that they are anti union, and why the NDP stopped supporting them.

      Of course the Cons would do exactly the same, but find a way to make it even worse for the flight attendants.

      For the amount of money Air Canada lost over this disruption, or the amount they paid their top executives, or the amount they spent buying back stocks, they could have paid their workers many times over their demands of living wage.

      Immediately going for binding arbitration, and the arbitrator is ex air Canada, all in the name of suppressing wages, is not a good look.
