And there goes the government interfering with worker’s right to strike yet again. A tale as old as time. All this does is teach Air Canada and others the government will have their back and they never need to negotiate in good faith. Just hold out for government intervention and let binding arbitration run the process.
Work to rule. Don’t clean, don’t serve, don’t help anyone.
If it’s not safety related, just don’t do it.
Just scrap whatever reputation Air Canada had.
What an absolute joke. There’s no point to ‚the right to strike‘ when the Overlords can just nix it and force the workers back.

If a job is so important that the government has to step in and negate workers rights to having a strike then that job should be nationalized. Enough of this public overreach to benefit private ownership.
And so Carney and the liberals continue their war against organized labour. What possible reason do companies have to bargain in good faith if they know the PM is just gonna force their workers back to work anyway?
Fuck the Liberals, fuck Air Canada. I’m sorry to the flight attendants. This is a type of class war more insidious than the broadsides down south.
Data showed that Canadians, across party lines, are in favour of raising wages for striking Air Canada workers. But instead, the Liberals took the nuclear option of forcing them back to work, and forcing binding arbitration on them…
I’m not sure which advisor in the PMO is reading the room correctly…if at all…but being this aggressive is going to hurt them. Especially if the CPC takes the Pro-Labour stance of denouncing this move. Which they’ve been enjoying stealing from the NDP.
Carney, you’re a genius. But I sure hope you know what you’re doing….
So apparently workers have the right to strike in Canada. Unless, of course, they have even a little bit of leverage. Then no.
I understand everyone’s kneejerk “pro labour” sentiments. But we need to recognize that flight attendants are far from being the only job in an airport. This strikes takes the livelihood of hundreds of different careers hostage, not to mention of those who depend on air travel to work and be paid.
From baggage handlers to pilots to security guards, to traveling nurses and teachers. None of them voted to have their job put on hold.
Who would like to not be paid for months so that flight attendants can get an extra $1-2 an hour for their own bargaining agreement? Easy to chant for solidarity when it’s someone else’s livelihood.
This same party is called leftist but they force postal workers, airline workers and other back to work. Same happens in Ontario with the same provincial party. Vote for an actual left party for workers rights, dental, healthcare etc.
Not that Carney had my support to begin with, but now he’s reached the Trudeau level where I will not vote for him. Period. Doesn’t matter what he does. His government is an enemy to working class Canadians.
This is bullshit.
I have a lot of travel coming up and I support the right for these workers to strike for as long as they need to.
