Aren’t these ultra-orthodox generally extremely gung-ho in military matters, but with the expectations that literally everyone but them does the fighting and the dying?

Why on earth would anyone let those people into the army??? Giving thousands of those extremists automatic weapons — and worse
— and turning them on Arabs? It’s not just discipline issues. They take the Bible dead literally. And look what it says.

The question of fairness is not the only thing. And the Left should grab any opportunity to dump Netanyahu.

This is the dumbest possible way of framing this. They’re not “opposing Netanyahu,” they’re trying to preserve their community’s special exemptions.
They also willingly mooch off the government they feel shouldn’t exist because they spend all day learning Torah. These people are fundamental messianists.
When Israel was founded, Orthodox Jews were a significantly smaller portion of the population and they were given special privileges as a protected class. Fast forward 80 years and now you have a significant portion of the population now within this protected class, and they use their voting power to force their ideals while also hiding behind their protected class, essentially forcing others to do their bidding. Netanyahu courted their vote in order to protect himself from the crimes he has committed. But it’s a double edged sword because a significant portion of Israel feels they should no longer be a protected class.
Conservatives everywhere are selfish, and you can usually count on that selfishness to clash spectacularly with their hatred.
They should be only allowed to live in border zone between gaza and Israel.
I hate when people use this religious extremist Jewish groups as “model Jews” because they oppose the Israeli government. They don’t oppose the Israeli government for the same reason pro Palestinian’s do. These people oppose the war because they’re worried the government is going to get rid of their special exemption that allowed them to dodge the mandatory draft in order to study the Torah. Has nothing to do with humanitarian concerns.
Same thing with the Neturei Karta who ignorant people always use to as examples of “good Jews” because they protest Israel. These people are just so religious that they don’t believe Israel should exist before the messiah has come. They will protest Israel relentlessly because of this fact. They even met with prior Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who was a vocal anti-Semite and anti-American. These people just live in their own worlds and only care about their extreme religious convictions.
