Ukraine already had security guarantees. That’s why they gave up their nuclear weapons. Don’t fall for that a second time.

anything short of guaranteed US boots on the ground in significant force in event of anyone, (russia, „seperatists“ included), restarting the conflict is meaningless. it’s literally the only thing that might give them pause that is short of NATO membership, bar a combined European army being there.
I bet US doesn’t want Ukraine in the EU either, so don’t be surprised if after the Friday meeting the war will still go on like nothing happened.

That LITTERALLY means nothing. There was this whole treaty about giving up nukes and getting guarantees about not getting invaded AND that if invasion happens from one party, the other party would help defend. Idk what it was called cuz clearly both the US and Russia has forgotten it.

Ukraine would be such an asset to NATO yet people act like they would be purely a liability.
They would bring the second largest army in Europe with recent battle experience vs the largest army in Europe and the reason NATO was created.

If Russia was to withdraw from Ukraine you and I and others wouldn’t be having this conversation. If Ukraine was a NATO member Russia would not have invaded and you and I and others would not be having this conversation. If Trump had half a brain and forced Putin to retreat you and I and others would never have to have this conversation again. Trump is pussy footing around because he doesn’t know what to do.
The issue here is Ukraine, in theory, already HAD said protections. Fundamentally unless they’re a part of NATO Russia can and will invade again.

Why would Ukraine accept security guarantees? They already have them with us and Russia. That’s why they gave up their nukes.

The four memoranda were originally signed by four nuclear powers: Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom.France and China gave individual assurances in separate documents.
Belarus is a Russian puppet state and Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014. These promises of security by the US are worthless.
