Referred to Committee December 2022. No other action. Non-article.

>The IODA would remove the “community standards” benchmark for determining obscenity, and would remove the provision clarifying that sexual conduct must be depicted in a “patently offensive” manner to be considered obscene — labeling all phonographic content as obscenity and rendering it illegal nationally.
>The bill instead defines obscenity as material that “taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest in nudity, sex, or excretion; depicts, describes, or represents actual or simulated sexual acts with the objective intent to arouse, titillate, or gratify the sexual desires of a person; and taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.”
>The plan to outlaw pornography is outlined in [Project 2025](https://www.advocate.com/politics/project-2025-anti-lgbtq), the [900-page document](https://static.heritage.org/project2025/2025_MandateForLeadership_FULL.pdf) created by the conservative extremist [Heritage Foundation](https://www.advocate.com/tag/heritage-foundation) that provided Trump with a blueprint for his second term. The first page of the document equates [transgender ](https://www.advocate.com/transgender)people and drag queens to pornography, and the fifth page calls for a nationwide ban.
>[LGBTQ](https://www.pride.com/lgbtq/?utm_campaign=SmartLinks)+ identities are included within „obscene materials“ in some states. Under [Kansas criminal law](https://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/statute/021_000_0000_chapter/021_064_0000_article/021_064_0002_section/021_064_0002_k/), obscene material deemed „harmful to minors“ that requires identification to view includes nudity and „sexual content,“ which is defined in part as „acts of masturbation, homosexuality, or sexual intercourse.“
>This is the third time Lee, best known for his since-deleted social media posts mocking the murders of [Minnesota ](https://www.advocate.com/tag/minnesota)Rep. [Melissa Hortman](https://www.advocate.com/news/melissa-hortman-assassination-legacy) and her husband, has introduced the IODA. It was defeated in both 2022 and 2024, and is not likely to muster the support needed to pass both bodies of Congress this time around.
Christian nationalists are speedrunning their genocide against trans people and all queer people. They want to define our mere existences as being „porn“, so they can lock us up by law and begin to torture us to death. This is sadistic shit from Mike Lee and the rest of the GOP. The whole Republican Party is worse than the Westboro Baptist Church.
Might as well ban alcohol, music, dancing, and any other form of entertainment Lee and his fellow kooks see as sinful while they’re at it.
Will I still be able to look at my naked pictures of Trump’s wife?
I have no doubt that Mike Lee has some grotesque and illegal porn downloaded onto a personal hard drive.
>This is the third time Lee, […], has introduced the IODA.
This time introduced back in Dec. 2022.
Hopefully the pattern continues.
Lmao America is such a shit hole
But then what will Mike Johnson and his son have to talk about?!?
Every official source I look at doesn’t show the bill having any activity since May. Where are they getting this from?
„in other news, stock prices for hard drive manufacturers rose by 32% in anticipation of vastly increased sales“ – new BLS chief probably /s
My source for the following well known quote was Wikipedia: „The phrase „I know it when I see it“ was *used in 1964 by United States Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart* to describe his threshold test for obscenity.“
its not just the porn they are going to ban btw. anything with lgbtq+ likely too. not to mention the whole id verification thing
Guarantee that being trans in public will be defined as pornography. It’s what they define as porn that will be most problematic.
All the GenZ bros Trump picked up in 2024 are going to *love* this one.
Of course it’s Utah..
Mike Lee’s signature “Female Circumcision” bill is coming up next.
Kinda smells like it did before the Fall of the Shah of Iran. /s.

Every now and then, the question comes up: do I loathe Mike Lee more than any other senator, including Cruz and mcconnell?
Some days, it’s just so hard to tell.
I don’t want to hear anything from a conservative about government overreach ever again.
Democrats: We kinda want you to not die. Plz take vaccine. Conservatives: WOAH GOVERNMENT OVERREACH OMG, It’s THE WORST.
Republicans: We want to ban all porn federally Conservatives: That’s just good policy!
-_-
They still managed to shoehorn something about trangenderism. Fucking amazing.
So what’s going to happen is that companies that produce pornographic content will move outside the United States. People will use VPN’s to access those sites. And more people will be criminalized for viewing perfectly consensual adult materials.
In addition to that the line between legal and illegal porn sites will be all but gone meaning access to actually harmful pornography will be easier than ever. And the lack of legal porn means people will use their own means to create pornographic content and these people won’t care if it’s made with the consent or the safety of the performers in mind.
In conclusion this will make everyone less safe. Pretty much on par for a Republican bill.
It was never “pro life”.
It was ALWAYS anti sex, anti free speech and anti women’s rights.
Thanks Trump voters.
Is this a joke? 95% of Republican men would need to be arrested if this passed
Republican Senator Mike Lee says porn is bad for you! But our President can fuck any child he wants because he’s a Republican.
Ah yes, a law that bans a high demand product without curtailing the drive to desire that product. That’s never failed miserably multiple times before or anything.
You want to change the culture? Then you have to change the culture. Bans don’t work. Just creates black markets and a new product for criminals to deal in. The reason smoking is down in youth is because of culture change, not bans. Bans get you prohibition and the war on drugs. Didn’t work, arguably made it worse. You can’t beat a bad dog into a good one.
If history has taught us anything, this man has got to be the most perverted, nasty MF on the planet.
This is 100% a republican win. Republicans prefer child porn which is already illegal, so a regular porn ban would mostly affect liberals.
All part of Project 2025
