I mean it seems as if Russia has begun to corner the city? Why do Ukraine always deny these reports to admit it days later

The claim from Russias end is a bargaining tool for the Trump Putin discussions to appear to have a stronger negotiation leverage. The goal is to make resistance seem futile.
Edit: it’s not necessarily that things didn’t happend, but about cherry picking something favourable.
