Pictures don’t really do it justice, especially not this one. Really impressive in person especially considering they rebuilt it

Strictly speaking it’s not a cathedral.
A cathedral is the seat of a Catholic, orthodox or Anglican bishop.
The Frauenkirche was built by the Lutheran citizens of Dresden.
The Catholic cathedral (the ruling house of Saxony converted to Catholicism) is next to the palace, opposite of the opera house.

The black bricks are the original ones that people kept for decades until Germany united, and they rebuilt it while putting original bricks in their actual location before it collapsed

I visited it a while back and it’s just stunning. Knowing it was rebuilt from the ruins makes it even more special, like seeing beauty rise from ashes. The mix of old and new stones gives it so much character. Definitely one of those places you remember long after the trip.
