I’m thinking not bc robots don’t pay taxes. I’ve heard ppl say tptb don’t need our taxes bc they print/have all the money, etc. – but, the irs isn’t going anywhere. I’m sure ai will help workers, but that’s about it.

Cars wiped out the entire horse industry breeders, carriage makers, blacksmiths, stables, you name it.
Throughout history, jobs come and go. Adapt or get left behind.

Someone’s gotta clean the grease off the AI arms, i call dibs

They say 2012 was the end of the Mayan calendar, and, therefore, the end of the world.

It wasn’t tho. BUT, a LOT of things happened that year.

For this topic, the push for a $15 minimum wage began, in earnest, by a design to convince the unskilled that they deserve a „living wage“.

Prior to then, there were pretty much 3 distinct classes of wage earners. The entry level unskilled laborers could plan on an hourly wage of $7-$12.

The skilled labor could plan on a wage between $15-$30/hour.

The „Professional“ could command $30/hour plus.

TPTB loved this movement, as it would assist in collapsing the middle class.

Fast forward to today, and yeppers, unskilled labor is getting their $15/hour, but, the skilled didn’t get anywhere near the same percentage increase. Neither did the „Professional“. Not by a longshot.

Meanwhile, the „Dollar Menu“ over at the golden arched clown house was now no longer a buck. It became the $3 menu, then the friggin‘ $5 bundle.

Because it still takes 7 crew members to run a lunchtime rush, but, instead of the cost to the franchisee being less than $100/hour for the team, it now costs him about $150. And, we all have to pay for that.

So, the unskilled labor got their big increase, but, it’s being taken from them by the $5 bundle, the increase in the rents, taxes, and expenses all following suit, because the jobs that were designed as an entry level position into the workplace are now where people wanna make the pinnacle of their „career“ choice at an unreasonable compensation rate.

But, the skilled labor and the professional are not happy about a $5 bundle menu. Because it ain’t worth it. And the McEga Corp knows it. Sales are down.

The lunch rush of the future will be machines and computers taking and making orders. Those 7 crew members will dwindle down to 2, maybe 3. One McGeneralist, loading the machines, one McMechanic to try to keep the shake machine working and one McAssisant McManager.

The skilled labor and professionals will still have their $5 bundle menu to select from, but the unskilled will now be the unemployed, looking in the windows and watching the machines take that ridiculous raise they got for their efforts.

And that’s how we reach UBI and Idiocracy. By rewarding mediocrity rather than a meritocracy.

Wanna beat ‚em at their game? Get smart and get into a trade. Somebody’s gonna have to make and service the rise of the machines.
