Being a centrist party, the Liberals can adopt some conservative platforms but still remain in the centre, plus it takes the ammunition out of the Opposition. Jean Chretien did this, too.
Its weird that everyone ignores that Carney sat in a room with hundreds of cheifs from all corners and Carney and only face resistance from a handful.
Their skeptical, but optimistic and a majority support it .Many bands from many parts of the country are waiting in federal ques for projects on their land that they support but are held up in the same blanket regulations that are protecting other projects on other lands that are highly opposed .
Bill C -5 isnt bulldozer , its a scalpel to be used with projects that are supported and have been threw regulations already and dont need to be stuck in queues for a decade
Ging̱olx Absolutely stunning , the Nisga’a are absolutely amazing people . The culture is literally mind-blowing and beautiful, but their people are suffering disportaptionetly in poverty .
LNG KSI Lisims is highly supported by them, and they will receive many rewards, including ownership rights . This bill will allow them to move forward much faster, and it doesn’t void the strict regulations that British Columbia already has . In fact, the Nisgaa will go beyond the minimum, and this is already supported by the corporations involved as well .
Now what Bill C-5 won’t do a thing for is Northern gateway, which the Nisgaa people and many other coastal nations and bands will religiously fight against, not just protest ..
Bill C-5 does nothing for projects that are majority opposed , in fact it gives more power to the opposition of these projects as if governments like Carney want C-5 to remain in existence , they can not use it in a way that will create mass discourse.
Its honestly degrading the way people put the power of these bills onto government and ignore where the real power is . Remove the tanker ban and nothing changes , the north pacific coast will not let crude parrel the Skeena and export from the coast , pushing this project will have no positive results and would absolutely blow up discourse for many projects with many bands across many nations and ultimately kill the bill .
So the left can scream bulldozer , the right can scream it does nothing but in reality its exactly what is needed in exactly the right way .
