It is simply pretty spectacular how badly they’ve done in such a short time. We are a year in and Reform are essentially guaranteed a parliamentary majority. The Lib Dem’s are on track to become the official opposition. There is a new left wing party taking chunks out of their base and leaving them with historically low support, which is matching their approval rating.
Making things worse, the support they do have left is bitterly divided and there is no good news coming on the horizon. It’s like a perfect storm of inadequacy and stagnation and they don’t appear to see the issue.
Going to be an interesting time for our politics.

Given that their policy position on everything is „business as usual“, that’s unsurprising.

Tory punch down policies and a genocide denying war criminal to boot!
Starmer’s Labour is just another political party who privately see themselves as our masters. Worse they aren’t even using this disregard to try and fix the difficult issues in the nation. If they had some kind of vision their arrogance might be less irritating.
The real problem is politics are stuck in a loop treading water and instead of making good decisions we keep making bad ones.
We as the public generally never get an option, what we get is to vote on is generally „lies and media“, so the end result is that most politically balanced people look for that middle ground and hope that the outcome is better than the past examples of bad governmental decisions.
The only real way out of these governmental situations (which could even be worse until it gets better) is to enforce and implement the smartest people to find solutions to the social and monetary problems, and remove the current democratic system for a „political agent“ system that relies on the input of a population on the direction of the country in a democratic system were peoples votes actually matter for something other than just putting the next „collective of individuals“ in power to do what ever they like really.
But maybe the human race is too far gone with greed, desire, manipulation, domination, control.

The government needs to lift people out of poverty. It’s as simple as that. That’s what voters think Labour is about. Trying to cut the winter fuel allowance and punching down on people with physical disabilities like Parkinson’s is not the best idea. Labour is coming across as the anti-welfare party when the people elected them to be the welfare party. This isn’t about ideological issues of socialism, communism, capitalism, conservatism, liberalism or any other ism. It’s not about trans, or migrants, or gaza.
If Labour just lifted say…a million people out of poverty, they’d win the next election. I get Reddit and others want to push this big grand vision of socialism and putting LGBTQIA123XYZ+ posters up everywhere and letting all the migrants in and obsessing over cooperatives and nationalisation, but that’s not what voters care about. The Labour left is just as misguided as the Labour right in this regard. There’s too much overthinking.
As someone a little older than most who lived through the Blair years I thought this might happen, really hoped it wouldn’t but here we are. Toires and Labour are two cheeks of the same arse and exist only serve their billionaire backers.

Because to all intents and purposes, they are a continuity government. Little has changed, and a lot of that has been for the worse. Even the vile rhetoric against vulnerable communities has been the same old, tired, manufactured hate for political purposes that the Tories were doing for the last decade+

I’d say they’re worse. Even more out of touch than the tories were, and they had the easy opportunity to just simply do better. Yet here we are staring down a possible Reform government. I’m just praying Corbyn’s party get the traction needed to defeat Reform
Everything is still falling apart and nothing really improves. We just get constant stories about budget problems and taxes.
No doubt those are issues thanks to the tories, but if the economy improves in any way during their term I think it’s mostly going to by by accident.
I think both labour and the tories to take a timeout for a few decade or two. They’ve protected the first past the post system thinking they’re the only ones that can win and it’s shows. They don’t try and we have bad incentives due to a bad election system.

The moment starmer inched his way to be leader the party went downhill.
Jezza Corbyn was the PM that Britain needed but people were not smart enough to figure it out. Now they’ve got more Tory-educated people pretending to be Labour men.
It’s as if labour know they are done for and are looking to take the country down with them.
You have to remember what a small cohort the previous parliamentary party was, so there was a limited pool of talent to select from. It’s just possible some new talent out of the new intake will start to emerge in the next couple of years, although they will inevitably still be quite junior. Also, the mood changed so quickly, starmer barely had time to prepare for governing. By contrast Blair had 5 years planning what they would do.
They tinker whilst Rome burns.
So they did inherit a country with a steep trendline down, but you’d think they would know that and go radical. Incremental steps isn’t going to be enough. Starmer is just so process-oriented that he, and the cabinet are just the entirely wrong people for the job. That said, nobody in parliament seems inspiring enough to be decent.
Boris/Sunak govt will go down as the worst in this country’s history.
Labour takes a gradualist approach to reform, so no, they’re not “same again politicians”.
They just have an approach that the radicals in this country dislike, because they have a 5-second attention span and want revolution

I recall reading when Starmer won that it was described as a ‚loveless landslide‘- in that the Torys definitely deserved to lose but Labour didn’t deserve to win.
He doesn’t appear to have escaped that gravity well.

When *Reform* are outflanking you on the left in terms of LGBT rights (yes, the people who tear down pride flags because other people existing offends their delicate sensibilities…) and authoritarian online surveillance (by American billionaire PEPs), you know you’ve fucked it big time. Theresa bloody *May*, the archetypical Tory, was making progress on this.
I’m not disappointed by any of this because I spotted the signs in the years before the election and didn’t award this shower my vote. I only feel vindicated. And also sorry for the millions of mugs who read every word they published and didn’t believe any of it. Yet still called it trustworthy?
Meanwhile I look at the fact that president paedo’s pet toad is hoovering up supporters and I’m genuinely afraid for the future of this country. Seems like the only direction is into darkness, and your only choice is between someone who will ride the accelerator, someone else who will ride the accelerator a lot harder and someone who will *not* ride the accelerator… any less than those other two.
The fact everyone hates them may mean that they are doing what’s necessary
It was well known Starmer was a bumbling ‘leader’, had no political nous or conviction and was an awful communicator even before he became PM.
His horrific comments on Gaza early on, considering he’s supposed to be a human rights lawyer, reiterated that he is ill suited to be a PM.
He’s been good re managing Trump, somewhat to my surprise.
He’s surrounded himself with poor, uninspiring favourites like Reeves, Phillipson, Kyle and Nandy.
Only Lammy comes across as competent.
It is really difficult to see where the politicians of the correct calibre are in any party to be honest.
Let’s face it,
No one in the countryside is going to vote for them.
No one hard left is going to vote for them
No one who understands what their role in Genocide is going to vote for them
Old people won’t vote for them after the winter fuel / freeze an old Tory to death policy
Young people won’t vote for them because of digital IDs
PIPs and benefit affected people won’t vote for them
The soon to be taxed into poverty middle class aren’t going to vote for them
So …… given they got elected with under 40% it’s fair to say that on current standings they are out on their arses at first time of asking.
‚Cause they are. It’s like watching a New Labour tribute act, but without the likes of Prescott and Brown in the mix to represent the left of the party / the party membership.
Who knew that would happen when you literally hired the same people, recruited the same people, and had exactly the same messaging as politics from 20 years ago
