I’ve linked to the news release in the post above. In this comment, for those interested, here’s the link to the peer reviewed journal article:

From the linked article:
**Childhood trauma tied to sexual narcissism and hyper-Sexual behavior**
A study conducted in Israel found that higher levels of childhood trauma were associated with heightened sexual narcissism and hypersexual behavior. Statistical analysis indicated that sexual narcissism may mediate the link between childhood trauma and hypersexual behavior. The paper was published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior.
**Sexual narcissism is a subtype of narcissism characterized by an inflated sense of sexual self-importance, entitlement, and a lack of empathy for sexual partners. Individuals high in sexual narcissism may view sex primarily as a means to boost their ego or gain power rather than as an expression of intimacy**. They tend to overestimate their sexual abilities and seek frequent validation of their desirability. Such individuals may also be manipulative in sexual relationships, using charm or coercion to achieve their goals.
Further analysis suggested that childhood trauma was linked to higher sexual narcissism, which in turn was linked to increased hypersexual behavior. Statistical modeling supported the possibility that sexual narcissism serves as a mediating factor between childhood trauma and hypersexual behavior.
> sexual activity as a coping mechanism for stress, anxiety, depression, or trauma
Have you considered that sex might just be a normal, fun thing to do?
Would you get called a narcissist if you took walks together to relieve stress?
>**Participants were 118 adults, including 72 men and 46 women**, with a mean age of 32 years (SD = 9.32) and an age range of 18–59. **The sample included 59 participants in the sex addiction group (sexaholics anonymous, SA)**, 36 men and 23 women with a mean age 31.41 years (SD = 8.13), and the control group from the general population included 36 men and 23 women with a mean age 32.47 years (SD = 10.42). Questionnaires included a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Hypersexual Behavior Inventory, the Sexual Narcissism Scale, and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. Childhood trauma was associated with sexual narcissism and with hypersexual behavior. A mediation model showed that sexual narcissism and child trauma significantly contributed to ratings of hypersexual behavior, and explained 60.3% of the variance of hypersexual behavior ratings.
From the actual study. That’s a pretty small and biased sample size.
This is quite a conclusion for what are just correlations with a small sample size.
A lot of people think hypersexuality or sexual narcissism is just someone being “overconfident” or “super horny”
but in reality it’s often a trauma echo.
When you grow up without healthy models for love, safety and boundaries your brain wires intimacy as performance validation or control not connection.
Sex becomes less about closeness and more about proving worth, feeding an ego, or gaining power.
Whats scary is ? These patterns feel “normal” to the person doing them, because they’re reenacting the only blueprint they’ve ever known.
Until that childhood wound is actually healed they’re basically stuck running the same script just with different partners.
