It does make sense tbh.
Line 5 is a security risk, both from a national security standpoint and an environmental one.
It makes 0 sense that to get oil and gas from Alberta to Ontario we need to rely on Wisconsin and Michigan playing ball.
Our energy policy is a straight up tragicomedy of errors and there’s no time like the present to correct them.
Good for them to take some leadership on the matter but I am not sure how they can build their pipeline without Manitoba on board. However, perhaps it’s another case of where Manitoba should not have a say on the matter like PP said with BC.

If this is really the intent doesn’t it make a lot more sense to focus on refinery production? Lots of the products we use in the West for example rely on refineries in Washington state that receive oil from Alberta.
But ultimately the savvier way to reduce dependency on the USA is to get away from dependency on oil.
If nothing else, this should either bring the as-of-now imaginary O&G players to the table, or settle the issue for rational people as un-viable.
We need to quit the addiction to oil. Burning fossil fuels will end up costing way more that whatever benefit we got from it. The whole thing is a lie. We already see it by the huge debt we have.
