FYI: The nearest known black hole to Earth is called Gaia BH1, located approximately 1,560 light-years away.
We can’t even get a craft to 0.01c. but sure thing Cosmo, let’s just casually send a probe 2000LY.
I really wish we’d be at the point where we could plan science projects that will take a hundred years even in the best case scenario, but I don’t think we will ever reach that point. The way things are going, we’re lucky if we manage to take a picture of an exoplanet from orbit this millennium.
We should launch immediately. And there’s only one man qualified to lead the expedition … Capt. D.J. Trump.
Just came to comment that that has to be one of the coolest names for an astrophysicist to have in 2025.
I don’t know what the current status is, but this is why I really hope the „planet 9“ anomaly is a small black hole.
I think I remember seeing that a long ago close fly could explain most of the peculiar orbits of the extreme trans-Neptunian objects (boring) . But I’m still holding out hope for a black hole!
