Switzerland should just stop shipping gold to the US. 20% of the trade deficit is refined gold (Switzerland supplies essentially the whole world with it). However, margins are tiny, GDP impact minimal and number of jobs too.

It has been discussed repeatedly for many months, but little has happened. Fundamentally, all European countries must ask themselves whether they still want to rely on the F35 amid these geopolitical divisions, at least outside of nuclear participation. From a purely technical standpoint, there is still much to be said for the F35, but the increasingly hostile behaviour of the United States makes a purchase seem less and less sensible. The Swiss would do well to reconsider the purchase, even if this will further worsen the already unfavorable trade balance.
