I think Australia won’t stress too much if Dump raises tariffs by xxx% (who knows what the final figure will be – Dump will change his mind) – because it’s the American people who are the one’s paying.
But if Dump demands that Aussies pay more . . . you need to consider how much can a Koala bear. At the moment the USA maintains a trade surplus with Australia, & a large part of that surplus is military equipment – I reckon countries like UK, France, Germany & Japan are going to be very interested in stepping into that role. There will be bargains available.

No, Australia is not worried. Some pharmaceutical exporters might be concerned, but that’s about it. Neither side of politics here is going to touch the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, which is what Trump wants.
The whole thing is stupid, the Australian government buys drugs from US pharmaceutical companies at a price that the US pharmaceutical agrees to. If US pharma is so fucking upset about that price, don’t agree to it. Literally nobody wins in this except big US pharma
Choices seem to be:
1. Fold. Accept America’s blackmail and build Australian Pharma in the USA, sell internally at a cheaper rate and to avoid tariffs.
2. Don’t fold. Americans can’t afford certain meds due to tariff cost, Doctors won’t even prescribe it, and so use lesser alternatives with more side affects, sometimes deadly. Australia has to find buyers elsewhere or risk losing billions in lost revenue.
Australia has two bad options that will cost them billions no matter what they choose. America has one good and one terrible option.
