      Czech president pushes for the country to enter in ERM II (Eurozone waiting room) alongside some political parties like STAN, TOP09 and Pirates. Still though, the majority of political parties are indifferent to the topic and some are clear against it.

      Also interestingly the latest Eurobarometer shows that most Czech people believe that Euro adoption will have positive consequences for themselves but at the same time paradoxically the majority of the population is still against it

      The sooner we adopt it, the better. At this point every major company and their owners are dealing and getting paid in Euro to be protected from the National Bank periodically devaluing the currency to boost exports (we’re a low-cost manufacturing economy first and foremost), eroding the middle class’s wealth, because the average Czech is being paid in CZK and their savings are also in CZK.

      The Czech Koruna is effectively a „peasant currency“ at this point, everyone at the top who can afford to uses Euro.

      Abandoning national currency (unless it’s really weak) before EU becomes fiscal union is suicide. Don’t make Greek mistake.

      The Eurozone is doing great, with record GDP growth (e.g., Italy), super high employment (e.g., Finland and Spain), and very low debt (e.g., Greece). Czechia will definitely be left in the dust by these economic powerhouses if it doesn’t accept the Euro.

      It’s interesting that the narrative in the Czech Republic is changing. If the Czech Republic adopts the euro, I think that in a few years only Denmark, Sweden, and Poland will not have the euro in the EU (Romania will adopt the euro if it manages to address its deficit, and Hungary if the government changes; in both countries, the majority supports the euro).

      If you take a look at inflation statistic for EU, see that Croatia pretty much always has highest inflation. This is what transition to euro bought us. To be clear, nothing wrong with the currency, but the way transition was handled.

      Basically, government set rules and said no one is allowed to raise prices. Supermarket chains did it in agreement with each other and caused highest inflation. Government sent inspectors, they found hundreds, if not thousands of violations and only issued warnings to supermarket chains, nothing else. And yes, government issued empty threats which were completely ignored.

      What’s best, inspectors fined small local businesses for rounding prices up to 0,10€ and less, but they never issued a fine to supermarket chains that rounded prices up to 2,00€.

      Lession: euro is good if rules are set and enforces. Not so much is rules are set but completely ignored.

      All countries in EU do not have a sovereign monetary policy. ECB is the one that has. One currency project has a very poor future. By keeping your local currency your government indeed can debase the currency but it has also a positive point: there will be always some jobs there. By accepting EUR you killing your economy as now you should compete with big EU players like Germany etc. Speaking about the inflation, this is the problem for the whole world since during COVID US printed 11 trillions dollars and the rest of the countries basically did the same following the same logic of debasing the currencies. I wish the Czech stay at least half sovereign by keeping your local currency. Best case scenario is currency pegged to EUR like in Denmark case. By the way, their government makes the peg lower than it should be for the same reason. But it is another story.

      I’m happy without the Euro. I’d rather we be able to have control over our currency. I am quite happy the way it is now
