Submission statement: Lula will not seek tarrif talks with trump. This comes amid an escalating fued between the largest countries in north and south america. Lula has compared this policy to the US cold war policy of overthrowing Latin american governments. Implying trump wishes to repeat that policy.
IMO: this is a bad move from Lula, atleast internationally. Brazil is definitely not stable to begin with and his previous courting of Russia and China. (Such as refusing to denounce Russias actions in ukraine) is isolating Brazil in its region. Especially as its traditional rival Argentina is angling pro west and the Brazilian economy has been in decline since the great recession. This seems to be the case of two corrupt populists refusing to act to improve the lives of their people.
It’s his job to humiliate himself if that’s what it takes.
