this is not *that* stupid of a thing to say. Energy is Russia’s main economic driver, the lower their incomes from it the faster the Russian economy will start to crack.
Even Putin and his officials are admitting that there’s no more ‚give‘ in the economy and that things are going to start hurting soon.

Russia will canibalize itself as long as it is required to take all the territories they have written in their constitution as part of Russia. Russia isn’t the type of a country that is willing to stop halfway.
