No intention before complete conquest.
The only way he ends the war is if he gets what he wants.
Until that happens, the only other option would be a total and complete Russian defeat so bad that he has to surrender

From a geopolitical standpoint, isn’t this mental as it’s wreaking his demographics, depleting his military stocks and also providing the west with a lot of intel around how the Russian military operate?
It’s also caused large countries to rearm due to the threat they’ve shown.
I just don’t understand it, it feels like pointless bloodshed. Is there actually any logical reason for Russia to do this?

Not a surprise. Putin won’t stop until Moscow burns since apparently no one is telling him what a desaster his military campaign is.
Putin committed to this war the second his economy devolved into a war economy. War economies can only survive in a constant state of war and aggression until they fall apart.
It‘s one of the few constants of political science and empires that are going to war to expand their power. And they all failed. Some after centuries like the Roman Empire, some after barely a decade like the Third Reich.
I wish someone had the intention of stopping Putin.
Why would he? Western countries are doing almost nothing against subversion via social media, and their politics have proven to be extremely vulnerable to agit-prop on immigration, whilst liberal capitalism continues to utterly fail. In my view he is calculating on strength of leadership, and he sees it as a case of fracture us and wait us out, then take whatever China will allow him to take.

Only 2 ways this conflict ends. Military defeat of Russia and liberation of territories, or the surrender of Ukraine and further concessions.

How is this news? Putin has never had any intention of stopping the war. If he does he loses power soon after.

Russia has a history of winning wars by just outlasting their opponents:
* Napoleon invades in 1812: Russia keeps throwing bodies at him as they march towards Moscow. The army goes full scorched earth along the way. Winter moves in, France retreats and only 10,000 of the 420,000 that started the campaign survive.
* WWII: USSR keeps sending solders at the enemy until they run out of bullets…and when their cities are seiged, Moscow goes with the „let them starve“ approach.
Putin wants to be remembered the same way, when he started a war he just kept going. He won’t stop until he gets what he wants, finds a way to save face or is ousted.
Of course he doesn’t. A moment of silence for Trump’s prior claim that he was so well respected that the Ukraine war would be over based on Putin’s respect for him. 😂😂😂😂

The war won’t end until the last Russian soldier drops dead or Putin does.
War stops when either Putin wins and takes Ukraine or Putin dies.
If the West and Nato would have made intervention in spring 2022 the war would have been over in a month. Biden was too afraid because he was raised in cold war era where people were afraid of Soviet Russia.
