“HIROSHIMA, Japan (AP) — Eighty years after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a dwindling number of the aging Japanese survivors are increasingly frustrated by growing nuclear threats and the acceptance of nuclear weapons by global leaders.
The U.S. attack on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945, and three days later on Nagasaki killed more than 200,000 people by the end of that year. Others survived but with radiation illness.
About 100,000 survivors are still alive. Many hid their experiences to protect themselves and their families from discrimination that still exists. Others couldn’t talk about what happened because of the trauma they suffered.
Some survivors have begun to speak out late in their lives, hoping to encourage others to push for the end of nuclear weapons.“

There’s something wrong with humanity. We have seen the horrific aftermath yet continued the development and proliferation of these weapons instead of ways to create a sustainable way of life for all in this planet.
When people call aliens demons, I implore them to take a look in the mirror.

It’s funny how Japan are still going on about WW2 events while still staying silent on the many atrocities they committed. Can’t have it both ways, either talk about the war and your role in its atrocities, or stay silent and pathetic about them like they have for most of a century.

Japan did this generation a great disservice. In the wake of rhe war and idea of rebuilding they were taught a very watered down and skewed version of Japan’s actions before and during the war. They thibj they were innocent and the Americans just bombed them for no reason. It’s wild. Met a lot of Japanese people this age, it’s one of the reasons the Koreans hold such resentment.

People who call for nuclear disarmament don’t seem to grasp that without nukes, we’d have MORE wars, not less. Without nukes, we’d probably be at World War 4 already by now.

It would be nice if we could de-nuke the word, but that can’t happen now.
Russia: „Ukraine, give up your nukes and we won’t attack you ever again, pinky promise“.
Ukraine: „K“ *Gives up nukes*
Russia: *Proceeds to wrongfully claim parts of Ukraine and escalating into full blown invasion*
It really is fucked up we need weapons of mass destruction as a deterrent, yet here we are.

If there’s any wrong about bombing Hiroshima, it is it should aiming Tokyo. More wrong about it, X10.

Ignoring for a second the reality that without the Manhattan Project and the Atomic bombings, the US would’ve had to fall on Operation Downfall, there is no way in hell NATO and the Soviet Union do not go to war in the 1960’s without the threat of nuclear annihilation over their heads. They very nearly did anyway during the Cuban Missile Crisis, so the ironic truth is, we have avoided the Third and likely the Fourth World War so far because the endgame is that no one would win.

They may not be around so much longer but they definitely have passed down their stories which in turn have lead to a myriad of anti-war movements throughout Japan. Right now they’re extremely vocal about genocide in Gaza and even the crimes against humanity in Sudan.
