This has moved pretty quickly. Hopefully the pilot scheme will be rapidly expanded and the government can start working towards removing as many as are coming in and clearing the backlog. Until they actually start sending people back in serious numbers reform will continue to gain steam
„About 50 people a week are expected to be returned during the pilot of the so-called “one in, one out” scheme.“
There were 900 illegal arrivals last Thursday alone, and the problem will continue to get worse. I’m concerned this pilot is to give the illusion of doing something, as opposed to actually engaging in impactful policy.
This seems like a real win. A massive problem is when someone arrives with no documents or documents showing they come from a country we have no returns agreement with. Well now they can be deported somewhere if they have no claim. There’s also a safe route so we don’t need to try to tackle the boats in the channel, not as many anyway.
Poor Farage!
His raisin d’etre is gone!
Let’s hope he quietly disappears to retirement from public life!
I dont understand how letting people roam freely in the country and saying to them
„We might let you stay “
And expecting them not to simply vanish
Is seen as effective?
This is just lip service. Very little will be achieved. A smoke screen to appear to be doing something. This will not stop the rise of Farage.
England returns those who arrive by boat to France. France returns illegal immigrants who arrive by train to Spain. Northern European countries are tightening conditions. Germany was also taking measures. Italy started doing so a long time ago. Call me crazy, but I think they’re starting to realize this is a problem.
It’s deeply sad that this government thinks this might actually do anything. It shows how incredibly thick and dangerous they are.
