One of the reasons China became susceptible to the Century of Humiliation was that after centuries of Chinese domination in East Asia, it had come to believe that China was *inevitably* the superior civilisation. This self-confident superiority led to a lack of curiosity about other countries developments and innovations. Over time, China fell behind and became outclassed by other countries.
This new policy of the Chinese Government is unlikely to be as detrimental, but it will similarly inhibit China learning from best practices elsewhere.
