I’m glad there are some democrats out there willing to do what they can to block the heritage foundations agenda

Representatives fleeing the state to delay a gerrymandering vote was not something I expected in 2025. This is some dark timeline
Blue states governors had better follow through on their threat to gerrymander their states if Texas did this. They recently gathered in Wisconsin to discuss this. Republicans can not control all the branches for 4 years. 2 years will take decades to fix. 4 years, and they pass their agenda, and the rest of us are f’d.
„To conduct official business, at least 100 members of the 150-member Texas House must be present. Democrats hold 62 of the seats in the majority-Republican chamber. At least 51 Democratic members are leaving the state, said Josh Rush Nisenson, spokesperson for the House Democratic Caucus.“
They tried this before and Abbott set the police on them to round them up.
This will lose Texas for the Democratic Party for years. Sticking and then fighting those more shaky Republican districts would punish the gerrymander and provide the best chance of tipping Texas blue. Instead, this is a gamble to preserve the seats of the Democratic incumbents at the expense of the party as a whole. Looking at Crockett, Dogget, Casar who would all face hard choices.
I will vote for and help elect these Democrats and any other Democrat that fights. California, NY, and Illinois should still press forward with their plans to eliminate every red seat they can. There’s no reason for a single republican seat in California. NY, Illinois, and Colorado should have few if any republican seats.
It’s going to get worse as time goes on, because as the small abuses of power start to pile up, Trump and his co-conspirators in his administration and Congress will begin viewing the mid-terms less as a battle for supremacy, and more as a battle for self-preservation.
Trump already feels this way, which is why he’s wasting no time in putting this plan into action. The erosion of political norms, the silencing of watchdogs, the attacks against the courts and the media, the gerrymandering and various attacks on election integrity, the brazen, overt corruption, et cetera.
He’s frightened and he will absolutely do everything in his power to avoid losing that power, up to and including cancelling or rigging the elections in his favor. The greater the abuse of power the GOP engages in, the more likely they will continue escalating those abuses out of fear of retribution.
At that point, the power ceases to be a means to affect change, and instead becomes a shield. A bunker in which to hide from consequences.
And we know how much authoritarians like their bunkers.
How long till Trump uses the National Guard or ICE, etc. To hunt down the democrat reps and force them back to Texas to push the map through?
Conservative sub is quiet about Trump being a pedophile and zero talk about redistricting.
I don’t have much hope for a positive outcome. But I am very grateful for all the Texans that are doing their best to protect democracy.

1) gerrymander large population blue states until Republicans can’t win a single seat
2) let Republicans sue
3) lose at the supreme court and fair maps are law of the land
Blue states redistricting is the only way we’ll get a national ban on it.
Sue them all into oblivion. Keep them in court until they’re broke. Then vote them out.
They’re literally „drawing out“ brown and black Democrats, to keep the off the ballots. This is unAmerican, unethical, unconstitutional and should be fucking illegal. It’s time to end the GOP.
What’s stopping TX republicans from passing and implementing the redistricting law aways?

It would be great if it wasn’t just virtue signaling……it isn’t just red states that gerrymander.
Furthermore all of these states threatening to do the same thing ,which is effectively silencing voters in their state, are just as bad and it shows why dems keep losing…….
