I am interested in how it will be depicted. But something gives me the feeling it’s going to be more gruesome propaganda than human drama
I’ve always wondered why China and other Asian countries (except Korea) have been so quiet about the atrocities Japan committed (killing tens of millions of people, labor slavery, sex slavery, biochemical experiments on humans, etc. etc.) against them for over half a century.
Look at the Jews and the atrocities the German Nazis committed against them.
What Japan did is soooo much bigger in scale, magnitude, duration and brutality, but it’s completely buried and the whole world in general treats Japan as some noble, extremely civilized country and an innocent victim of the US atomic bombing.
Meanwhile, what the German Nazis did has been taught around the world in schools and through millions of Hollywood movies.
Ah classical move. Release it at the anniversary of Mukden incident to maximize the clicks.
The year will not be complete without some form of anti Japanese sentiment farming in China.

I’ve seen way too many WWII-era Japanese shows and manga that are basically just love stories with the war as a vague background. Not sure if that’s propaganda, though.
As for this movie, honestly, most folks I know aren’t expecting much. It feels like it’s just riding the wave of a controversial topic to make money. And with how many times it’s been delayed, the quality probably speaks for itself.
