So I wonder how many of the planes russia stole at the outset of the sanctions are still air worthy.

The obvious response to this should be to ban the sales of spare parts to Etheopian Airlines and any other aircraft registered in Ethiopia.
Interesting that Ethiopian Airlines would be interested in a leasing agreement with Russian airlines after they stole a bunch of planes at the beginning of the war. I wonder who’s willing to insure them.
If Ethiopia follow through it will raise the ire of EU and US and can land them on same sanctions as Russia which will cripple their airline industry and expansion plan.
