      Oh blimey!

I’d always thought of GBNews as bit of a tin pot station that no-one took seriously

    2. GBNews needs to be shut down for simply being a propaganda channel for ReformUK.

BBC News has lost trust of the population but ITV News is the most balanced news channel in UK right now.

    3. cheeseandcucumber on

GB News is basically the UK’s version of Fox News. Look what Fox News has done to America. We are fucked

    4. hoovesfortoes on

I’ve never watched GB News but the quality of BBC’s journalism both on TV and in articles has plummeted over the years.

When you read an old BBC article it’s shocking how detailed and thorough it is in comparison. There are so many examples now where the BBC omits random details (often important ones) for no reason.

You can still get odds of 5 to 2 on Farage being next PM, might as well make hay while the sun shines.

GB News is just a cash dump for right wing billionaires,

      2021, -2.9million. Revenue, 0
      2022, -31million. Revenue, 3.6million
      2023, -42.4million. Revenue, 6.6million
      2024, -33.4million. Revenue, 15.7million

They keep losing millions every year while only seeing growth in revenue from online ads

    7. BBC hosting every GB News personality on their political programmes may have exacerbated this problem, me thinks.

    8. It is kind of forced down your throat, pre installed on new TVs and on the shortcut list if you don’t remove it

It also seems to be recommended on new YouTube accounts or on guest YouTube viewing

    9. Hungry_Horace on

Misleading headline as usual from the NigelGraph.

GB News’ viewing figures have overtaken *BBC News’* viewing figures (and Sky News).

Not “the BBC”, certainly not BBC One or Two.

    10. John_Williams_1977 on

And how Reddit mocked it ‘no one watches’

      Well…!

There’s a very easy way to beat the growth of extremist groups: democracy.

If people want benefits cut and immigrants out? Do that. Then suddenly there aren’t angry folks screaming about stuff.

All our issues stem from a Government that can’t demonstrate it listens to anyone.

    11. What I’ve noticed is that GB News seems to be one of the few channels that you can view without having any form of TV subscription (on LG tvs anyway), this probably contributes to that.

    12. pubemaster_uno on

Watching the BBC is like being lectured these days. Whole organisation needs its cage rattled.

    13. A_Sweatband on

Can someone link the dataset used? I’m not calling bullshit or nothing, I’m genuinely very curious.

Also, how many people watch these news services all day? (not that I would call Gbeebies a news service, it’s not, the presenters have claimed so when they got in trouble with Ofcom).

    14. We need to learn from this.

Maybe the country is even further right than I thought. I quite like some of the Talk TV presenters as they seem rational and intelligent. Some of them are barking mad.

GB News however struck me as a little too right for my liking.

The people are making the opinions clear by voting in the polls, with their wallets, with their viewing habits.

Trying to shut down channels and media like this will only fuel even further right parties than Reform.

You can’t contain a problem by shutting down access to media sources like these.

    15. Cornwallian68 on

Well done BBC in courting populist shysters like Frog face.

Well done British people for falling for it again. You dumb cunts.

    16. > The latest data show GB News pulled in an average audience of 80,600 across each day in July. That was ahead of BBC News on 78,700 and 67,000 for Sky News.

TLDR News gets around 100k views for each of their videos on YouTube. Sure there’s the global audience for YouTube versus TV but this is more a sign that people who would normally be BBC News‘ demographic are getting their news from other sources like YouTube whilst those still tuning in to 24 hour news channels on TV are much more likely to want something like GB News.

    17. terryjuicelawson on

Well they beat the BBC news *channel* presumably, not the actual news broadcast proper. As who tunes into that on the regular. GB news is „entertainment“ so probably beats all sorts.

    18. Burntoutfish on

It’s fucked by I’ll benefit from this. Reform are going to reduce taxes on high earners, cut the NHS to shreds and deregulate everything.

People with lots of money (me) basically will be fine.

The people voting for them are beyond fucked.

    19. AnonTvPerson on

Think they’ve been creative with these figures. If you [look at the official stats on Barb](https://www.barb.co.uk/monthly-viewing/) in a month (which is a better measure of popularity):

      GB News 3.7m
      SKY News 8.3m
      BBC News 9.9m

This suggests GB News prob has a loyal following while a broader audience dips into Sky and BBC. Which makes sense.

Still – quite an achievement for GB News. And problematic when it’s filled with bias and rage

    20. News channels don’t force beliefs, people watch what fits what they already believe. Shaming the outlet just pushes its viewers further away instead of addressing why they’re tuning in in the first place.

    21. This is cos It’s mostly the old ppl left watching tv now.

10-15 yrs back tv adverts in the afternoon were the same as they had been since I was a child. Now it’s Walt to wall funerals, vaginal dryness creams, charity stuff and limited edition Winston Churchill collector coins

    22. The news here is: Nobody watches news channels except folks who like being spoonfed populist bullshit.

    23. requisition31 on

I’m going to say the unpopular opinion.

People are turning away from the BBC because it’s clear to see that it has a bias that isn’t acknowledged.

People like GB News more because it’s clear what the presenters and news reporters think.

They’re both biased in their own ways, but GB News doesn’t hide this fact.

Viewers don’t like being lied to or manipulated, and they especially don’t like it when that motive is hidden.

    24. shugthedug3 on

Doesn’t surprise me, TV is almost 100% boomer focused now and when boomers want news they want a right wing slant.

    25. I’m noticing that the older generation – the only ones left who watch and believe TV – are becoming increasingly racist. Even ones that don’t watch GB News.

    26. Probably because the BBC refuses to report on the massive illegal immigration problems the UK has.

    27. Duanedoberman on

BBC has basically given up on news, BBC breakfast is effectively the One Show in the morning (Mirrored on the BBC news channel at the same time) most news reports are filled with promotions for their banal output.

    28. Hyperbolic_Mess on

Kind of makes sense as who watches broadcast TV (no one I know except my parents) and that generation’s politics align pretty well with GB news

Also is this for the BBC news channel or the news segments on the main BBC channels? The latter gets much higher viewership so it’s likely the former and and it’s much less impressive than it sounds

This is from just a year ago

      https://www.ofcom.org.uk/media-use-and-attitudes/attitudes-to-news/tv-loses-its-crown-as-main-source-for-news

    29. This country is so fucked, if this trend continues into the next election I’m bailing for the EU

    30. Mr_Rockmore on

Who in the UK is sitting down in the evening after work and switching GB news on? The average working class family? Retirees? The boomers? Disillusioned young people?

Genuinely asking as I just cant wrestle my head round the idea of ever wanting to watch GB news

    31. 123LukeFoster123 on

The BBC stopped providing unbiased news reporting years and years ago. If someone has to watch politically biased news, don’t you think it makes sense for them to pick the one they best politically align with?

    32. Robo-Connery on

Bit random but this just reminded me, I was on a high dependency unit for a few weeks last autumn.

The guy across from me watched GB news like 8 hours a day…loudly…getting worked up by whatever they were going on about…when he had visitors, mainly his wife, he would rant about immigrants and how the country is not what it used to be.

The guy was fucking dieing, he could barely breathe half the time, they were gradually stopping medical interventions and increasing his palliative meds yet he spends most of his time in his last few days??? He spends a large portion of his time with his family on this???

I mean I guess you don’t know what you’d do in someone else’s shoes but still…

    33. Illustrated-Society on

I mean, watching BBC News over the past 20 years isn’t great, but GB News really really paints a shitty look for Britain.

    34. duxwontobey on

This is about the bleakest news I’ve heard in a long time. This country is done, if Reform wins we’re just gonna be exactly the same as America is. A pedo fascist kleptocracy.
