Bunch of hypocrites. Yeah, we know it’s putting free speech at risk, but they could have picked a better source to talk to.

So does Musk owning Twitter, would be nice if they both lose somehow

I mean speech on X is censored heavily to Elon Musks liking. The term Cis will immediately get you get you banned. Far right fascists are massively promoted. Yes this new law is for censorship but given how much power the right wing have it’s almost certainly just gonna be used to crush LGBT communities and opposition to the Murdoch press. Which is something X already does, so I don’t understand why they would be complaining.

There are alcoholics who cannot access anonymous support on twitter or reddit because its flagged as „NSFW“.
There are news sites who won’t show videos of what’s happening in Gaza because its flagged as „NSFW“.
This new law is being used as a means to censor whatever the government doesn’t like.
And if anyone dares to call it out, they’re smeared either as supporters of terrorism, porn addicts, or in the mad case of Peter Kyle vs Nigel Farage, defenders of Jimmy Savile.
Gutter politics being peddled to defend an awful form of legislation that will do more harm than good in the long term.

Twitter, the company that banned anti-government speech in Türkiye and suppressed pro-Kamala Harris material, not to mention the word “cisgender”, doesn’t get a say on free speech.

Shut up plebs, honestly? No Internet. Only far-right thugs, porn addicts and dangerous criminals use the Internet.
It’s a danger to children. Effective immediately, you can only use the Internet at special Internet Use Centres – furthermore, you must pay a fixed Internet License to the BSC (British Streaming Company).
No, it doesn’t matter if you actually use the Internet you will pay the license regardless.

There’s two subsections in the OSA which says that any depiction of violence against people and animals is subject to the OSA however a couple lines below it two more subsections are added which says the definition of „People“ and „Animals“ in the previous subsections does not have to be real and could be fictional
Basically a Cartoon, Movie, Video Game, Anime and Manga ban

They’re not wrong here and it’s had effects that aren’t just limited to the UK, it’s effected video games, the Australians, Canadians and Americans are getting involved with similar authoritarian legislation, YouTube and Spotify have fucking age verification and it’s all thanks to a combination of the Tories and Labour.
***However*** Musk is the last person that needs to weigh in on this considering he’s been censoring any information that he doesn’t like, so it’s a bit hard to take that criticism from him. It’s like Hannibal Lector complaining that your chicken is undercooked.

Where are the protests? The outrage in public spaces? This is censorship by our government, and we’re letting it happen.

It’s not about censorship. Otherwise, kids wouldn’t be able to see advertisements for online gambling . It’s about data collection to enable identification of individuals based on their Internet postings. Facial recognition algorithms will be linked to biometric data making identification during protest or other such events easier for authorities. Tldr Temu Minority Report is here

When I criticised it amongst friends, I was told it sounded like I didn’t care about kids.
I had to actually point out that I don’t care about them, and its the parents responsibility, and there are already tools out there that achieve the same goals without being so ham fisted over it. Equally I’m not the one bringing in rules that corrale them into the shadiest xxx sites on the net.
But I guess it’s onto hurt thousands if people if you are helping one, or something?

Just a reminder that musk and thus twitter is very open about his support for farage.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the companies crying about this change are also the ones who have been lobbying for lighter regulations for years.

Best thing we could do as a species is do away with the inertnet. Its caused more trouble than not. Its allowed the far right and putin to sway elections and cause mass disinformation to the point that we are living in alternate realities to our nighbours. Facts are no longer king. You kids crying about it have never lived pre internet when opinions werent predominant and divisions werent really a thing. And a whole lot more beneficial things. I welcome the complete upheaval of the net till it gets to the point that people turn away from it.
