Damn this really makes up for the fact that we have, despite the weasel words of our government, continued to send military arms and missile conponents and ammunition to Israel to continue enacting it’s genocide. Haha guess we’re good guys after all
Unfortunately hundreds of aid drops are equivalent to a single truckload delivery of aid, which Israel continues to obstruct.
The ‚aid drops‘ is a circus. There are 6000 aid trucks waiting on the Egypt side of the border, hundreds of millions of dollars of aid, donated from countries around the world….just sitting there. Israel will open fire on any truck crossing the border.
Doing the bare minimum to assuage your guilt for enabling these horrors for 21 months.
Sanction Israel now, or else nothing will force them to come to the table. Sanctions against Israel and diplomacy will be needed to end the genocide and release remaining hostages whom the Netanyahu government doesn’t seem to give a flying f*ck about.
Israel, especially under the Likud government, has worked tooth and nail to undermine the two-state solution. The world needs to come together to sanction not just the state of Israel but also individual government officials so that they withdraw their troops from the West Bank and Gaza, end the blockade on Gaza and withdraw their troops, settlers and settlements from the West Bank to end the occupation. Once that’s done, there needs to be a complete disarmament of Hamas and a deradicalisation campaign to rid the West Bank and Gaza of any Muslim Brotherhood influences so that the state of Palestine can be established.
There needs to be a tribunal to hold war criminals from both Hamas and Israel accountable, and also a massive deradicalisation campaign among Israelis, to rid the society of this expansionist and pro-occupation/settlement mindset.
It’s bizarre that our approach to Israel manages to be objectively bad, a poor approach no matter what our goals are. Usually high-level foreign policy debates that reach the general public are about our goals and values – what we are aiming to accomplish. Here, the LPC has managed to find a middle ground that isn’t rationally working towards any single goal at all.
If Canada wants to stop Gazans from starving to death because of a food blockade, it would be counterproductive to keep supporting the army that maintains the food blockade (by sending Israel arms, supporting Canadian recruitment into their armed forces, etc).
If Canada wants to maintain the food blockade to cause more Gazans starve to death, it would be counterproductive to airdrop food in. The goal of a food blockade is to starve everyone.
There is no value system that makes it rational for us to be arming the force that maintains the blockade and airdropping food over the blockade, at the exact same time. We’re currently spending resources to starve Gazans and to feed Gazans, this would be a bad approach no matter number of Gazan deaths we valued.

The tragic farce of this might do a better job of explaining the problem than any text, though.
