There is in fact a „magic money tree.“ It’s called the Bank of Canada. Not that I expect Carney to use it. Expect pain and austerity.
Also, isn’t Carney already cutting Pharmacare despite promises not to?
How do you talk about spending cuts and then in the same breath talk about a money tree these two things are not alike
Isn’t the lack of clarity because they’re still figuring out where to make the cuts? He’s asked ministers to look into where cuts totalling 15% can be made in their portfolios, presumably they’re still working through that to figure out what programs are the least impactful.
This could be done through attrition or offering full pensions on early retirements, it could be through cutting costly programs, or merging programs, or a number of other things. You can’t provide clarity on a decision you haven’t made yet
