I am curious to see what percentage of the military are extremists compared to that of the civilian population. Also a reminder, you all wanted the military to be representative of the population, so guess what, if there’s extremists in the general population, you’ll also have some in the military. Question comes down to the ratio doesn’t it?

The CAF has managed extremism very well, especially considering the times .
Ironically, its extremism from Canadians citizens that poor into our armed forces bases not the other way around .
I can think of a whole lot of other population demographics that extremism flourishes in more then the CAF .
But carry on Canada , continue on with the alienation of demographic that has a strong majority of moderates with in it .
Of course there is extremism. The job can be extreme.
„Hey man – want to go to a third world hellscape, eat terrible food, get no sleep, earn decent-ish money (maybe) and potentially get your limbs blown off all before you turn 21? You MIGHT get a chance to kill someone yourself and you get a shiny medal.“
To me and in my experience, that is an extreme position to take. And I have taken that position when I was younger. There will always be soldiers who are ‚extremist‘ because of the underlying raison d’être of the entire organization – that is that those in power want those who follow orders to go somewhere physically and kill for their benefit.
The only difference is that during different eras the ones who are considered ‚extremist‘ would have been considered ‚patriotic‘ and the notion of ‚extremism‘ varies with whatever group is in charge of society and what values that group holds.
