      Reminder that Republicans have been doing this for decades largely unnoticed but it only becomes an issue when Democrats try to play the same game.

      SCOTUS would step in and stop California, while magically allowing Texas to do so.

      Everything needs to be in place, complete, and ready to go awaiting Newsom’s final signature or they won’t be able to turn this around in time.

      Waiting until they actually do it to start preparing is a failing. Plus, it’s a given Texas is going to do it.

      Big difference is that Texas is already Gerrymandered quite a bit. California is not. Dems would probably net a bigger margin if done.

      Do it ahead of time. Why not? Redraw the maps before Texas starts. That would teach them to fuck around.

      Odd that it’s the California move that is „teeing up national fight“and not the Texas redistricting that forced Newsom’s hand. The news media is so corrupt.

      New York could do this also, if it were not for the feckless centrist rot of Hochul, Cuomo, Jeffries, and Schumer. The New York „Democratic“ party has made war on the progressive left for decades, and in this moment New York Democrats in leadership are worse than useless.

      Yes! Now Illinois and New York. Hey I want non partisan maps but that is not happening right now. So don’t bring a knife to a gun fight

      Gerrymandering is not a problem that can be solved at the state level, and we can’t solve it at the federal election without winning.

      Step 1: win the midterms.

      Step 2: demand a constitutional amendment requiring states to draw fair maps.

      Democratic U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke of El Paso called on Newsom to move forward with redistricting without waiting for Texas.

      “Why the fuck are we responding and reacting to the other side instead of taking offense on these things?” he said.

      I wonder how they are going to get around of the committee that is actually drawing the California map. There are equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans in the committee.

      He’ll need to be ready to pull the trigger. The Republicans will wait until the last minute so the courts don’t have time to stop them.

      I’m am glad to see someone fighting back against the MAGA coup, but I fear this will backfire on intra state politics and could swing the state government enough to the right to allow MAGA to gain power. Give them an inch and they will setup the concentration “reeducation” camps.

      The DOJ is going to investigate California for violating Civil Rights. Meanwhile, they’ll file to defend Texas in the inevitable lawsuit.

      Texas has been a red state for at least 2 decades (correct me if I’m wrong) and why are they suddenly redistricting? Is it because they’re afraid of the democrat voters that probably already outnumber their base voters?

      If Democratic states and cities gerrymandered anywhere near as frequently as Republican districts do, we’d likely never have another Republican in office again.
      Unfortunately, the centrists that make up a huge cohort of the Democratic Party are complicit in allowing the unified front of the Republican Party to get away with anything and everything… While at the same time cockblocking their own party’s agenda in the name of “decorum”.
      I don’t have a lot of faith in the left’s ability to get on the same page and grow a spine, but I wish them luck.
