    1. Authorities say that the earthquake causing this tsunami is M8.7.

The huge earthquake of March 11, 2011 in Japan was M9.0. These 2 are nearly the same size.

Just wanna say, if you’re reading „a couple meters of water“ and think you don’t need to evacuate, you need to evacuate.

The 2011 tsunami was only expected to be 6-8 meters and ended up being ~40 meters in the worst areas. Shoreline topography can turn a few feet of water into dozens of feet of water and it’s not gonna be possible for you to predict that ahead of time.

    3. Im watching some Japanese sites and cut/pasting into Chat GPT for translation. It looks like some of the tide gauges on Hokkaido are only reporting .3m, .4m and -.7m on the YouTube chat.

This shit just makes me REALLY nervous for the predicted megaquake Japan is set to get in its major population centers from ~~Nagoya up through ~~Sendai. This is already looking really bad.

Fortunately at least for the US Pacific northwest and BC Canada, the wave is calculated to hit at low tide. If this holds, it will be an enormous bit of luck and help spare many communities.

Anyone know if other places are getting hit at null or high tides?
